L Sections

After flat rubber strips and cylindrical cords, the simplest form of rubber extrusion is the L section.  As with any type of material – metal, plastic, etc – an L section rubber draught excluder or seal gives you two perpendicular surfaces to work with.  This makes it that much easier to find ways to attach the product to surfaces which may not have been designed with such accessories in mind, and also will form a more complete seal with the opposing surface.

To illustrate, imagine fitting a simple blade-type draught excluder to the bottom of a door.  If the floor surface beneath the door when it is in a closed position is damaged or irregular, the rubber flap would only connect with the surface at its highest point – grooves or holes in the floor would leave gaps in the insulation.  By installing an L section for doors which do not have a consistent frame, a wider area of the floor beneath the door will be covered, and the draught protection will be maintained.

Other advantages of this shape of accessory are how the design makes the most of the advantages of the materials.  In contrast with specifically shaped types of seal like D section and E section products, a silicone L section draught excluder has the same thickness throughout its structure, and can therefore be adapted to many more uses.  By lining up the two perpendicular faces of the L section with the two surfaces on either side of the gap – be that a wall, door, window frame, shutter, or even a temporary barrier such as a partition or shelving unit – gaps of up to 29mm can be closed, with various thicknesses of silicone rubber available depending on the physical resistance required.
